This soft, engaging plush resource represents the blue swimmer crab (Portunus armatus), a marine species found widely in Australian coastal waters. Although typically bluish in life, this plush reflects the red-orange colouring of the crab after it has been cooked, offering a playful and recognisable look for young learners.

The blue swimmer crab is an important species in Australian marine ecosystems and holds deep cultural significance for many Aboriginal communities living along the coast. For the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains, and other groups such as the Ngarrindjeri of the Coorong and Lower Lakes, seafood—including crabs—has long been a vital part of traditional diets, seasonal harvesting, and cultural practices.
