The caxixi (Ka-shee-shee) is a percussion instrument that originated in Africa and South America. It is made up of a woven basket and a solid bottom filled with recycled beads.

The caxixi, like other percussion instruments, is played by shaking, giving children an opportunity to deepen their understanding of rhythm, dynamics, and musical expression. Sounds can be varied by either shaking the contents against the side of the instrument for one sound or against the base for caxixi for a different tone.
