Sea Dream Mermaid & Merman

Dive into a world of underwater adventures with our Sea Dream Mermaid & Merman. Featuring different skin tones, flowing seaweed-like hair and an Aboriginal print on one of the tails, these enchanting characters invite children to create stories filled with wonder.

And yes—there’s a merman! Bringing a male character into mermaid play opens up more possibilities for storytelling, gently challenges gender stereotypes and reminds children that magical adventures are for everyone.

A beautiful addition to early childhood small world play, these characters encourage language, collaboration and imaginative exploration, while celebrating diversity through play.

Water beings also hold significance in some Aboriginal cultures. In Western Arnhem Land, Yawkyawk are female ancestral water spirits, sometimes compared to mermaids, associated with freshwater pools and streams. These culturally specific stories offer an opportunity for educators to explore connections to water and Country through Aboriginal-authored resources.
