Juju Handrattle

Shakers and rattles are a type of percussion instrument which produce a sound when shaken or moved. Traditionally used in religious or sacred ceremonies or to emphasize the words and actions of important people, shakers are now more commonly used as toys and by musicians as a roots style instrument.

The origins of shakers are known to be from within Ancient Egypt. This handmade instrument is great to use in storytelling (stormy sea, rain or hail storm) or exploring cause and effect through sound.

Made from seed pods and plant fibres.

A beautiful sound

This rattle really is a beautiful instrument. Not quite as loud as I'd hoped but I'm planning to mike it, so not a problem. The sound is rich and nuanced, like gentle rain on dry leaves. Very pleased with this addition to my sonic pallette!
