The güiro is a traditional Latin American percussion instrument typically made from a hollow gourd with parallel notches cut in one side. It is played by rubbing a stick or tines along the notches to produce a ratchet sound. Playing the güiro usually requires both long and short sounds, made by scraping up and down in long or short strokes.
This guiro is played by holding the spiral onto a surface or held in the hand, the metal stick can then be used to create a variety of sounds. The spiral can also be wobbled to create a sound.
